strawberry picking

i have the fondest memories of early summers...strawberry picking with my mama and sisters and loading up bushels to take home...sneaking some to eat or stuffing some in pockets for later. it was definitely a tradition i couldn't wait to pass on to my max...and now to baby phoebe. and as much as sis is very much her father's daughter...old girl loves strawberries like her mama! even though she did empty out our bucket on the ground twice and squashed and ate every berry we picked...i think she's going to be a natural strawberry picker.

happy happy monday, friends! any good strawberry recipes?

  14. I want to get out and do this soon. I've lived in Ohio all of my 39 years and have never been to a "you pick" farm. I have picked a couple of berries off my backyard strawberry plants though.

  25. My strawberries are just getting ripe to pick, and I can't wait! Every year I freeze alot of mine, I don't know if you do, but I have a great recipe that makes them taste fantastic when you defrost them! On the stove, heat up 6 c water, 4 c sugar, and 1 small pkg sugar free strawberry jello. Warm it till it is smooth and clear looking. Let it cool. Slice up your strawberries in whatever freezer container you will use. Pour just enough juice mixture to cover them, and then freeze. When you defrost them in the middle of winter, they taste just like fresh! It is wonderful. I also use the same recipe for peaches, just substitute peach jello.

    Your pictures are beautiful!

  28. Ah! I have always wanted to leave near fruit farms so that I could go wander around the beautiful fields and pick how ever much I wanted. Sadly I live in Kansas where it is near impossible to get fruit to grow happily. We thought about getting a strawberry plant for our garden the other day, but then we were too sad to, picturing it dead in just a few days.
Your pictures are beautiful! Happy Strawberry cooking!
